The Review of the Mechanism of Herbal Medicines contained in Sports Drink

Abstract
Objectives: The review of the literature had been done to investigate the mechanism of the herbal medicines contained in sports drink. We had thought the results could provide the theoretical basis of adding herbal medicies to sports drink.

Methods: We had selected several herbal medicines contained in sports drink, and investigated the mechanism in field of oriental medicine and pharmacology.

Results and Conclusions: In view of oriental medicine, it had been found in concepts treating "summer-heat pathogen" and "over-exertion syndrome", eliminating the symptoms in sports activity by tonifying the spleen, nourishing the lung, clearing away the heart-fire, promoting the production of the body fluid, inducing sedation of the mind, etc. In pharmacological view, it had been found all herbal medicines had the protective effect of oxidative stress regarded as the main cause of the physical and mental fatigue in sports activity.
